11 years ago when I entered the computer field my first job was writing C programs on Sun Solaris using the Borh shell scripts and and the C programming language. It was in this environment that I found it necessary/ essential to learn Perl, besides WWW was pretty hot then and Perl was all ove the internet. My choice for a console editor is Vi. I have worked in AIX environments, and many on many different Linux Platforms. I am confortable working from the command line or a terminal prompt in just about any shell, but I do prefer the bash shell.
