I have been writing Perl scripts for the last 11 years.  I am extremely familiar with the language meaning not only can I write Perl code, I can read other peoples Perl.

When I write my code, I keep it readable and use the strict pragma early on in the prototyping stage.  I am comfortable working with (Object Oriented Perl) OOP that being said, if I come into a new environment or workplace, I will work within the guidelines available.  If no guidelines are available, I do my best to follow current and past practices in regards to Object Oriented Frameworks already in use.
